The post-Arnold era begins in 2010, and competition for the coveted gubernatorial post in California is already heating up. The Republicans have some excellent candidates who all stand a fair chance at winning the election.

A recent survey indicates that over 32% of the probable Republican primary voters favor Meg Whitman for the governor’s post.  Let us review some of the leading Republican names vying for the California Governorship in 2010:

Meg Whitman

Whitman, born in 1956, earned her MBA from Harvard University and a Bachelor’s in Economics from Princeton. She is a billionaire businesswoman, which ensures that her campaign is pretty well bankrolled. She was the CEO of eBay from 1998 to 2008, and served as an economic policy adviser to John McCain and Mitt Romney, the presidential candidates in the 2008 elections. In fact, Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts believes that Whitman is the only candidate with the “ability to get California working again.”

Steve Poizner

Born in 1957, he was elected to the position of California’s State Insurance Commissioner in 2006. Before launching into his political life, Steve was in the technology sector, and founded SnapTrack, Inc. and Strategic Mapping, Inc. SnapTrack was sold in 2001 to Qualcomm for over $1 billion dollars. Thereafter, Steve served for a year as a White House Fellow in the NSA. Steve’s current campaign aims at a “grass roots strategy” and seeks support from local party committees. Steve Poizner is recognized for his work in government reform, education reform, and repositioning California as a pro-family & pro-business state.

It is a shame that Campbell dropped out. He will however make a fine Senator.
