Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jerry Brown has been a career politician with little to no impact over the decades he has been in office. It is time for him to move on as well as the voters of California. This state needs new leadership with fresh ideas and a clear vision for the future. Someone who has experience outside of bureaucracy. Electing Jerry Brown to yet another term in office will set back California.
Below are seven reasons why the voters of California need to take a stand and prevent Jerry Brown from taking the governorship.
- Not much to talk about. Jerry Brown served two terms as governor of California from 1975 to 1983 and not much can be said about those two terms. In fact, the result of those two terms were seen much later when the state started suffering from high taxes, uncontrolled expenditure and financial setbacks. His 40 years in politics has produced results such as failed experiments, undelivered promises, big government spending, and higher taxes.
- Brown lost focus of his job in 1980. As governor in 1980, he lost focus of the job at home in California and instead, followed his over ambitious zeal to run for the President of the United States of America. That decision alone plunged the state into plenty of trouble since his focus changed entirely from serving the people to fulfilling his personal political goals.
- Remember Prop 13? Jerry Brown sits on the fence. Neither as governor of California nor as Mayor of Oakland did Brown manage to resolve any conflicts or irregularities. As governor of California in 1978, he had been radically opposed to the provisions of Prop 13 until a majority of voters gave it a thumbs up, after which he happily backed it and to top that, took credit for getting it passed!
- Jerry Brown can’t get things done. In the past, Jerry Brown wasted taxpayers’ money by delaying the rebuilding of the Oakland side of the Bay Bridge due to his indecision over exactly how it needed to be rebuilt. The result of his dilly dallying over rebuilding the bridge has not only contributed to delays but also wasted tax payer dollars!
- No economic plan. In the shape that it is today, California needs a leader who will be able to put life back into the state’s financial health. Other candidates have clearly shown a head for economics by coming up with a clear plan to energize the state economy. Jerry Brown has only stressed his understanding of state politics and how he intends to end partisan divides in Sacramento without putting together a comprehensive stimulus plan.
- The age factor. He is 71 and if elected governor will be the oldest Governor California will ever have. Wasn’t age one of the reasons that sort of went against McCain in his campaign for president in 2008? He may have experience on his side, but is he a visionary of the future?
- Scandal! Recently, his assistant secretly recorded conversations between Brown and journalists. An illegal act in California that has not only exposed a twisted state of affairs within his campaign but has also revealed his own mindset and dealings with the people and the press. Commentators and the media have said that the tapes revealed that he has appeared ‘egocentric’, ‘rebellious’, ‘argumentative’ and even being ‘over confident’.
