Pedro Nava graduated from California State University, San Bernardino, and University of California, Davis, Martin Luther King Jr. School of Law. He later served as a Deputy District Attorney in both Fresno and Santa Barbara Counties. Since 1987, Mr. Nava has been a civil litigator.
In 1997, he was appointed to the California Coastal Commission by then-Assembly Speaker Cruz Bustamante. He has been re-appointed three times by Senate President Pro Tem John Burton.
Mr. Nava is currently President of the Santa Barbara County Action Network, Past President of the Santa Barbara & Ventura Colleges of Law Board of Trustees and the Santa Barbara Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
