Gloria Negrete McLeod

  • Biography:

    Senator Gloria Negrete McLeod was first elected to represent the 32nd Senate District in November 2006. She was elected in the 61st Assembly District in November 2000. She was re-elected and sworn into office on December 6, 2004, to serve her third term. The 32nd Assembly District encompasses parts of San Bernardino and Los Angeles Counties and includes the cities of Chino, Montclair, Ontario, Pomona and the community of Guasti.

    While serving the Assembly, Senator Negrete McLeod was the Chair of the Standing Committee on Business and Professions, which serves to protect California Consumers, along with serving as Co-Chair of the Assembly Ethics Committee and as Vice-chair of the Joint Committee on Board, Commissions and Consumer Protection.

    In addition, she served on Governmental Organization, Health, Public Employees, Retirement and Social Security, Select Committee on the Alameda Corridor East, Select Committee on Domestic Violence, Assembly Rules Sub Committee on Sexual Harassment Prevention and Response, Women's Caucus and the State of California Commission on the Status of Women.

    As a 35-year resident of a community that encompasses the West End, Senator Negrete McLeod is actively involved in the clean up of groundwater contamination. One of her top legislative priorities is to improve the quality of California's current water supply and to ensure that there is a reliable plan in place that will adequately provide for the State's growing water needs.

    Improving the affordability and access to higher education, enhancing the quality of health care, improving our current transportation system to reduce traffic congestion, and promoting the growth of quality employment opportunities for Californians are also among her highest legislative priorities.

    Senator Negrete McLeod has been an active member in her community for more than 30 years. Prior to being elected to the State Senate, she served as the President of Chaffey Community College Board and was a Chaffey Board member for five years. She and her husband Gilbert L. McLeod, a retired police lieutenant, have 10 children, 27 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
