Ron Calderon was elected to the California State Senate in November of 2006 and proudly represents the communities of the 30th Distrcit including Hacienda Heights, Huntington Park, Pico Rivera, Bell Gardens, Montebello, Norwalk, South El Monte, Santa Fe Springs, Southgate, East Los Angeles and Whittier.
Prior to joining the state senate, Mr. Calderon served as the Assistant Majority Leader in the California State Assembly during his first term and was later appointed by Speaker Fabian Nunez to serve as the Chair of the Assembly's Banking and Finance Committee.
While in the Assembly, Mr. Calderon was responsible for several key pieces of legislation that have protected businesses from fraud and identity theft (AB 424), aided in the fight against pollution and rising fuel costs in our state (AB 679), and helped consumers by reducing the costs associated with building of new homes in California (AB 758).
Mr. Calderon's "You Spray, You Pay" anti-grafitti bill (AB 2923) has been touted by law enforcement and civic leaders as a major benefit in the battle against graffiti and a new tool that will work in deterring future vandals. The Governor agreed and signed AB 2923 into law in October, 2006.
Senator Calderon was born and raised in Montebello where he attaneded Montebello High School, later earning a Bachelor of Arts from UCLA in psychology.
Along with a history of strong community involvement, Ron has substantial experience in business and finance, giving him the background necessary to ensure California's economy continues to grow. He has served as a manager in the manufacturing industry and as a mortgage banker and real estate agent. He has also owned a small financial service and marketing firm.
Senator Calderon lives in Montebello with Ana, his wife of 24 years, and their two children Jessica and Zachary.
