He has served as past government relations chair of the San Diego Multiple Sclerosis Society and the past president of the American Jewish Committee, San Diego Chapter and on a variety of community boards and committees.

A believer in education in its many forms, Marty has been the host of more than 50 public affairs television programs on San Diego’s Learning Channel.

A five-time recipient of Outstanding Faculty Awards at SDSU, Marty was presented with a University Distinguished Service Award upon retirement. He was also honored for community service by the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation. Marty lives in the District with his wife and children.
